“Is it too late to admit that I’m a terrorist?”
— Benjamin Lyman
Song: Benjamin Bludgeon
The last track on Benjamin Lyman’s new album Royal Mirage.
I’ll be talking about this album and this song on my music blog in a few weeks in an exclusive interview with Benjamin, but I couldn’t resist sharing it here.
Guys, I am addicted to everything this album and this song is. I’m talking truly, madly, deeply in love. I cannot praise it enough. Sure, some people might find Benjamin to be an acquired taste at first, but give it a listen. I once had a very music savvy friend tell me, “He’s got a really original voice for someone doing hip hop.” That’s totally true. And what makes the music even more original is the fact that it isn’t hip hop alone. Benja is combining his gorgeous vocals in there too. It’s that, combined with astounding songwriting, beautiful melodies, synchronicity, charisma, and hints of humor that can only be credited to being nothin’ but Benja, that blow my mind album after album.
Original music — and I’m talking really original — usually strikes my fancy most. Naturally, I adore musicians that are inspired by other musicians and enjoy when you can hear that in their music. But give me something I’ve never really heard before in music, and you’ve got my attention for a long time. Of course all compositions are, in a sense, entirely original. I respect music and the people who make it, regardless of whether or not I like it. I’m talking musically innovative here. That is what I thirst for. Benjamin quenches that thirst time and time again.
But enough talking, ladies and gentlemen. Give the song up there a listen. I can listen to it over and over again, and it is one of my greatest hopes that you feel you can too. Don’t hesitate to let me know your thoughts! :)
